Archbishop Rajič has expressed his “deep gratitude” for the new role entrusted to him by the Pope and for the confidence placed in him, together with his hopes of “being of service” to the Pope and “the universal Church.”

Archbishop Petar Rajič, until now Apostolic Nuncio to Italy and the Republic of San Marino, was commenting on his appointment today, March 30, as Prefect of the Prefecture of the Papal Household.

Born in Canada to a Croatian family, the Archbishop will oversee the work of the Prefecture, the office of the Curia responsible for internal organization and the daily management of the Pope’s activities, including organizing scheduled audiences. The position had been vacant since 2023, when Archbishop Georg Gänswein concluded his mandate and was subsequently appointed nuncio to the Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. These are the same countries where Archbishop Rajič had served as nuncio from 2019 before his arrival in Italy in 2024.
